Chat Rules - Help Make Our Chat Great!

Ok, here's the temporary rules list for our future chat. Nothing here is set in stone, and I'm looking for input on rules we may not have thought of, or things of that nature. Nothing here is set in stone except my name. lol

Chat Rules



Swearing will not be tolerated. Please do not also mask swears, to do so will be considered as swearing and will be treated the same way.

Insulting other gamers will not be tolerated.

Flaming/ insulting staff will lead to an instant ban. No exceptions.
Staff consists of Guides, Moderators, General Managers, Vice General Managers and Administrators.

Please do not post any links in chat, as they will lead to an instant warning, Pornographic or recruiting links will lead to an instant ban.

Do not goad, taunt, or otherwise 'troll' someone into rule breaking. You will be held just as responsible.

English only in chat. The reason being if our moderators can't understand your language, we are forced to assume you are hiding swears.

Please do not spam. Spam consists of multiple, unneeded numbers/punctuation/letters that serve no purpose other than to take up space.

Please do not flood. Flooding is posting 4 consecutive posts in chat, or posting very long posts in chat. The only exception will be if a full minute passes between the most recent posts.

Please refrain from the use of all capped words and posts. More than 2 words in a post that are all caps will lead to warnings.

If you are not a moderator, please do not mod. The reason for this is simple, if everyone starts demanding people follow the rules, it's instigation.

Please do not argue with staff. If you are unhappy with a staff member please direct it to the admins or supervisors. Such things do not need to be "aired out" in chat.
If you have a problem or an issue with their judgement, please send a private message to the staff in question. If that does not resolve your issue, then please send a private message with the situation to Madam Snapshot

Please only post the last move/ count and result of a match. Posting more than this is considered flooding.

Please do not ask for premium membership, money or anything of this sort in chat. Begging is basically spam.

No contract talk in chat. If you wish to join a federation, please use the Private Message system to talk to a General Manager.

This is a family oriented site. Please do not talk on the subjects of Religion, Sex, Narcotics, Politics or anything else inappropriate.

Any attempt to solicit a user's username or password in any way will result in an instant ban and account deletion. You will never have any reason to give it to someone else, nor will you need someone elses.

If you see a rule being broken, please inform a Moderator or an Admin via private message. Do not tell them in chat, as that can be seen as a non-moderator trying to mod. If a moderator is not in chat, please send a screenshot of the infraction to the next mod that shows up or to Madam Snapshot.

Rules look good, cant think of any others.

Just wanted to ask, will there be any links allowed? Eg. To a "Getting Started" or a "Help" link. Or will all links not be allowed.
Also I thought, maybe only Guides/Moderators could be allowed to post the links, just a thought.

If any links would be allowed (at this point), it'd probably be only by the guides. I simply don't want mods posting links in chat. Those links would be supervised by Nem, to ensure they're ok... Maybe he would make like a list of "acceptable Guide Links" for them to follow? Not a bad idea...

it this point I am against links in the chat. there will be links on the actual site to whatever the players need. If a player needs a link to something, they can use the Private message system

Just wanted to throw my opinion out there regarding one specific rule that I have always found to be unfair in many ways.
I do realize that staff might get more abuse than normal players but the whole people get banned if its a staff flame compared to a simple warning if its a normal player is just plain unfair..
Either have it ban for both cases or keep it a warning in both cases, even if I was staff I wouldn't want or expect preferential treatment over another user..
Anyway, just thought I'd say what I believe to be right, since this site is still under development, hence much better at taking suggestions, compared to other sites, or rather site...

the reason why insulting staff is an instant ban is because of the fact that staff members get enough abuse from the players. If there were no such rule then people would feel free to abuse staff whenever they want, which is wrong. Players would take "pot shots" at staff at every chance they get, which would turn the game chat into chaos. The staff are there to provide a service to the player, and the players must recognise that.
That is why it is an instant ban rather than a warning for staff insults.

the idea of links includes urls that are not clickable. Therefore, clickable or not, Links are not allowed at this stage. Otherwise the chat would be flooded with links. If each person in chat posted a link, there would not be any room for chatting. May as well call it a link room, not a chat room

There is going to be a Recruitment Area? If so, I propose that there you can recruit for tournaments, invitacionals, and most important, fed contracts.

there will be absolutely no fed recruiting in chat. The rules have been made to say that for good reason. If we allowed it, there would be nothing but fights in chat between GMs and players

What about if just GM's could post there? No fights.

It would still end in fights.
There have been no problems in previous games of using the Private Message system, and the rules are there for a reason. But I thankyou for your input.
